Balancing Tension

Why “Balancing Tension”?  The idea first came to me as I listened to a sermon via podcast(I think the sermon was given by a guest speaker at Greg Boyd’s church, but I could be wrong on that) and the speaker made mention of the popular mantra that seems to float around Christian circles these days about finding “balance.”  The speaker disagreed with the sentiment noting that the Christian life is not one where you are able to find that comfortable “balancing” spot, but of living in the midst of two (or more) tensions.

I think there is merit to both.

Balancing tension is about trying to find the balance between two or more extremes, finding that place where the soul may find quiet rest and yet compelled to live life to the extreme, finding ways to go about being a co-laborer with God in bringing about the Kingdom of God.

Throughout this blog you’ll experience my attempt at this.  It won’t always be clean or consistent – I may very well change my mind on any number of things I say, but that’s part of what it means to live in the Now But Not Yet.  The fact that we’re not “there” means that there is room to grow and part of growth is change.

Welcome to my life.  Feel free to look around.
