Just published another article on Wrecked titled The Community That Is. In his book Life Together, Dietrich Bonhoeffer says:
He who loves his dream of a community more than the community itself becomes a destroyer of the latter, even though his personal intentions may be ever so honest and earnest and sacrificial.
Like most people, I struggle with the tension between what is and what should be. Some days I’m an idealist with my head in the clouds, dreaming of a world better than this, a life more full than this, a Kingdom more present than this and other days my feet are planted solidly on this earth – a cynic, pointing out all the flaws and clichés in the world and lives around me. This is especially true when it comes to community.
How do we dream of true, life-changing community without neglecting the community right in front of us? Where’s the balance?
